Scarborough, Tobago – Dr. Faith B. Yisrael, who serves as Tobago’s Deputy Chief Secretary, Secretary for the Division of Health, Wellness, and Social Protection (DHWSP), and area representative for Belle Garden/Glamorgan, recently addressed the operational status of the Roxborough Hospital. Constructed in 2019, Dr. B. Yisrael referred to the facility as a “health facility” rather than a full “hospital,” highlighting its current service limitations.
Dr. B. Yisrael noted that the majority of recent job advertisements issued by the DHWSP align with the specific requirements for offering inpatient services at the Roxborough Hospital. She explained that while the facility has consistently provided outpatient services, including vital accident and emergency services daily from 7 AM to 7 PM, the crucial step of fully implementing inpatient care is still pending.
Acknowledging that this transition process is taking longer than expected, Dr. B. Yisrael affirmed that the necessary steps are underway. She conveyed a patient perspective, emphasizing her learning to “let it work out when the time is right,” indicating a commitment to the phased development of the facility. This ongoing process aims to expand the Roxborough health facility into a comprehensive hospital offering full inpatient care to the community.
