TOBAGO ZONE OPPOSES PROPOSAL TO RESTRUCTURE SSFL…

A controversial proposal by the North Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) has ignited fierce opposition and outrage across Tobago, as plans to restructure the 2026 Boys’ Premier Division would effectively sideline Tobago schools from the main national league competition.

The proposal, brought forward by North Zone Chairman Joseph Taylor and approved by a 9–6 vote (with six abstentions) at a General Council meeting in Couva, would remove national powerhouses Signal Hill Secondary and promoted Speyside Secondary from the 17-team national top flight. Instead, the plan confines the four Tobago teams to a local four-round island competition, citing inter-island ferry and flight travel expenses incurred by Trinidad teams as the primary rationale.
