The Tobago Day Awards annually recognize and celebrate the significant achievements of Tobagonians across various fields. Bestowed by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) every year on December 4th, these honors kick off Tobago’s independence celebrations.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine emphasized the awards’ purpose: “This is the way of saying that we don’t need external validation for our heroes. We will acknowledge and celebrate our heroes ourselves on a wider scale. It’s also evident that we have something truly special with the Tobago Day celebrations.”
Among the distinguished recipients, Netball coach Kyla Keith-Wilson received the prestigious Chief Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service and Important Performance in the Field of Sport. This award stands as the highest honor granted by the Tobago House of Assembly.
Additionally, Bill Browne, owner of Double B’s Supermarket, was awarded the Tobago Medal of Honour Silver for his long and distinguished contributions to Tobago, spanning entrepreneurship and community engagement. Teacher Coleen Hislop received the Bronze Tobago Medal of Honour, recognizing bravery, humanitarian action, and loyal service beneficial to Tobago. Hislop shared her journey, noting, “My journey would have started in the year 1970 when I began teaching at the Mason Hall Government Primary School; it had always been my desire to be a teacher.”
The Tobago Medal of Honour is a distinguished award that celebrates Tobagonians’ commitment and contributions to the island’s growth and culture. A total of 28 Tobagonians received awards at this significant ceremony.
