Tobago Motorsport Association Condemns Drifting in Rain Forest Reserve

TMA condemns the use of the public roadway in that form without the expressed permission of the relevant authorities, especially in what is established as a protected forest reserve area.

MEDIA RELEASE

On Sunday 28th January 2024, video footage was released of a car performing what resembles “drifting” along the roadway of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve. This activity was not a part of any organized Tobago Motorsport Association (TMA) event, nor does it represent the values of our members. TMA has always endeavoured to operate motorsport activities within the means of the law and encourages its members to drive and operate their respective cars within The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act of Trinidad & Tobago.

The Executive of TMA convened an emergency meeting on Sunday 28th January 2024 at 7.45pm to discuss the disciplinary action to be taken as our first course of action. TMA condemns the use of the public roadway in that form without the expressed permission of the relevant authorities, especially in what is established as a protected forest reserve area. We are quite aware of the negative environmental impact of such actions and will never condone nor support same.

The Tobago Motorsport Association will continue to focus on building the sport on the island in accordance with strict rules and regulations as we have been doing for over the past five (5) years. Our members must understand the discipline that comes with the responsibility of motorsport and the respect for the environment in which we operate.
