Tobago Motorsport Association Condemns Drifting in Rain Forest Reserve

TMA condemns the use of the public roadway in that form without the expressed permission of the relevant authorities, especially in what is established as a protected forest reserve area.

Scarborough, Tobago – January 29th, 2024 – The Tobago Motorsport Association (TMA) has issued a strong condemnation following the release of video footage on Sunday, January 28th, 2024, showing a car performing “drifting” maneuvers along the roadway of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve.

The TMA emphatically stated that this activity was not part of any organized TMA event and does not represent the values of its members. The Association reiterated its long-standing commitment to operating motorsport activities strictly within the confines of the law and continually encourages its members to drive and operate their vehicles in accordance with The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act of Trinidad & Tobago.

The Executive of the TMA convened an emergency meeting on Sunday, January 28th, 2024, at 7:45 PM, to discuss immediate disciplinary action against those involved. The TMA vehemently condemns the unauthorized use of public roadways, especially within a protected forest reserve area, recognizing the significant negative environmental impact such actions can have. They vowed never to condone or support such behavior.

The Tobago Motorsport Association affirmed its ongoing focus on building the sport on the island in accordance with strict rules and regulations, a practice they have upheld for over five years. They emphasized that their members must understand the discipline inherent in motorsport responsibility and the crucial respect for the environment in which they operate.
