SOE Update New “No-Protest Zones” Declared…

New emergency regulations under the active State of Emergency (SOE) are establishing strict geographic boundaries on public demonstrations across the country. Under Legal Notice No. 40 of 2026, titled the Emergency Powers (Prohibition of Public Protests and Demonstrations) Order, 2026, citizens and activist groups are strictly barred from staging protests or demonstrations within 500 metres of 15 designated state, security, and transport installations.

Announced by senior executives of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) during a media briefing at the Police Administration Building, the order aims to protect public order, national critical infrastructure, and government continuity during the SOE. The measure follows recent tense demonstrations outside police headquarters and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office.
