Police Merit Initiative Recognizes 17 Officers

July 2, 2026 — In an effort to boost morale and foster professional excellence across all operational ranks, the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has officially launched a new monthly Police Merit Initiative, honouring seventeen outstanding police officers for exceptional performance, dedicated investigation work, and community service.

The merit programme comes during a demanding operational period for island law enforcement—characterized by heightened anti-crime operations, rapid grid patrol rollouts, and increased holiday event security. Divisional leadership emphasized that recognizing proactive crime prevention, rapid emergency response, and ethical public conduct is vital to maintaining high standards of integrity and motivating front-line personnel. The initiative seeks to create a sustained culture of positive reinforcement across all police stations on the sister isle:

  • Recognizing Diverse Contributions: The 17 award recipients were drawn from various operational wings across Tobago, including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Community-Oriented Policing units, and rapid-response patrol teams.
  • Performance-Driven Benchmarks: Officers were commended for specific achievements, such as executing critical firearm and narcotics seizures, demonstrating de-escalation skills during volatile domestic disputes, achieving swift case closure rates, and maintaining exemplary punctuality and discipline.
  • Fostering Public Trust and Accountability: Senior divisional officers noted that acknowledging top-performing rank-and-file members reinforces internal accountability and demonstrates to the public that dedication, transparent policing, and citizen-first service remain the standard for the Tobago Division.
