Scarborough, Tobago – August 3, 2024 – Gender-based violence and sexual violence have been a growing issue in Trinidad and Tobago, with over 44% of ever-partnered women experiencing intimate partner violence. However, there is a recognized lack of awareness among the general population, and more specifically, among the visually impaired.
Today, the Gender and Child Affairs Division under the Office of the Prime Minister hosted the National Strategic Action Plan Braille Handover at the Central Administrative Services Tobago (CAST). This initiative was centered on spreading awareness and providing crucial information among visually impaired citizens. The handover aims to ensure that critical resources for combating GBV and sexual violence are accessible to all, promoting safety and protection for vulnerable populations in Trinidad and Tobago.
