Fishermen blame T&T salvage for new oil spill

Tobago Fishermen blame T&T salvage for ignoring advice and removing oil booms after oil was detected near Crown Point.

The All Tobago Fisherfolk Association is accusing T&T Salvage of removing an oil boom against their advice, leading to oil being detected in waters near Crown Point. Fishermen encountered oil in the water yesterday while catching bait. The oil is believed to have originated from the Gulfstream shipwreck on a reef near Cove. The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries engaged the international company T&T Salvage to decant the bunker fuel from the wreck and salvage the vessel to prevent further contamination of the area.
