Scarborough, Tobago – February 27, 2024 – The response to the devastating oil spill disaster in Tobago is currently operating at a de facto Tier 3 level, despite officially being labeled a Tier 2 response by the Central Government. Allan Stewart, Director of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), highlighted that Tier 3 involves the utilization of extensive international resources to manage such a crisis.
Stewart noted that various multinational corporations are already actively involved in the field, providing crucial support for the cleanup. TEMA awaits the official declaration of a Tier 3 disaster, which would formalize the international mobilization and resource allocation.
