In September 2023, School Supervisor II Phillip Roachford confirmed that St. Andrew’s Anglican Primary School had been grappling with a long-standing issue of rodents. This persistent problem became so severe that it led the staff to collectively sign a refusal-to-work form, exercising their rights under the Health and Safety Organization Act.
Along with the significant rodent problems, Roachford noted that the school also faced plumbing and lighting issues. Fortunately, he reported that all these critical concerns had since been addressed, with the assistance of E-IDECOT and the Public Health Department.
Due to these various issues affecting the school’s reopening for the academic term, concerns were naturally raised about their potential impact on the school’s schedule and syllabus. Roachford provided assurance that the dedicated teachers at St. Andrew’s Anglican Primary School would diligently address any time lost, particularly with the aid of online schooling, a method widely utilized during the recent pandemic.
The School Supervisor II also guaranteed that the division would continue to collaborate closely with the school’s administration, including the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA). This ongoing partnership aimed to minimize future disruptions and ensure the school’s smooth reopening on the upcoming Monday, prioritizing the well-being and education of its students in Tobago.
