Tobago icons honoured ahead of October carnival festivities.
October 25, 2024 – Tobago’s rich talent and heritage were celebrated today at a ceremony on the Scarborough Esplanade, where eight distinguished Tobagonian icons were recognized for their significant contributions to the island’s development. The honorees, who have made their mark in various fields including culture, leadership, and education, had prominent streets and landmarks renamed in their honor.
The recognized icons include:
McCartha Linda Sandy-Lewis (‘Calypso Rose’)
The late Winston Bailey (‘The Mighty Shadow’)
Bertille St Clair (legendary football coach)
Allan Richards (former chief administrator)
The late James A.A. Biggart (politician and pharmacist)
The late Dr. Jacob Delworth Elder (anthropologist)
The late Aloysius and Edna Morean (educators)
The event, hosted by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), was a joint expression of gratitude, aiming to pay homage to those who have shaped the fabric of Tobago’s society and to inspire future generations.
