Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The East Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago celebrated 170 years since their ancestors first arrived on May 30th, 1845. In his message to the Nation, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley described their journey as a bold and daring risk, acknowledging their fearlessness and courage.
Recounting their history, Prime Minister Rowley noted that these indentured laborers came to work as agricultural laborers, originating from various villages across India. Their arrival marked a pivotal moment in the nation’s diverse cultural and historical landscape.
