THA Should Have Law-Making Powers, Recommends Constitutional Reform Committee Report
Constitutional reform committee recommends that T.H.A. should be granted law-making powers
August 16, 2024 – The recommendations from the Constitutional Reform Committee are now public, following six months of nationwide consultations. The final report was presented to the Prime Minister on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, and subsequently to Cabinet on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, after which it was agreed to make the document public.
Among many significant recommendations was one which recognized that the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) should have law-making powers. This recommendation marks a pivotal point in the ongoing discussion about greater autonomy and legislative authority for Tobago, as the nation considers its future constitutional framework.
