Scarborough, Tobago – June 24, 2024 – A $3.956 billion budget was presented today by Chief Secretary and Secretary of Finance, Trade, and the Economy, Farley Augustine. This marked his third and final budget presentation as Finance Secretary, as he prepares to hand over the portfolio to a successor.
Augustine stated that the $3.956 billion budget should equate to 5.8% of the upcoming national budget. Based on Tobago’s population growth and the stipulation of the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) ruling, he argued that Tobago should not receive less than such an appropriation. His presentation outlined the financial needs and strategic priorities for Tobago’s development for the fiscal year 2025, emphasizing what he believes is the island’s rightful share of national resources.
