he sod was turned for the construction of a $50 million water intake plant in Goldsborough—a project that has been discussed for nearly a decade. However, with assistance from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the plant can now move forward. Minister of Planning and Development Penelope Beckles-Robinson explained that in 2023, Trinidad and Tobago signed a Transformative Development Loan Agreement with the IDB for its National Water Sector Transformation Programme. The Goldsborough Water Intake is one of the first projects funded under the IDB loan. Beckles-Robinson stated that once completed, the additional water supply will benefit many communities. Meanwhile, Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonsalves stated that the plant had been three years in the making. He also thanked the THA for collaborating with the Ministry and WASA to secure access to the land for its construction. The Goldsborough Water Intake Plant is expected to feature fully automated equipment that utilizes state-of-the-art technology.
