Scarborough, Tobago – PNM Tobago Council Political Leader Ancil Dennis says that it is only through greater autonomy that Tobago can make island-specific laws, such as those needed to manage marine parks.
Dennis pointed out that while the current legislation allows Parliament to consider bills submitted by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), he claimed that THA or localized issues rarely form part of the Parliament’s agenda. This, he argues, is a major flaw in the current system, highlighting the need for Tobago to have the authority to manage its own affairs and resources directlly.
