Scarborough, Tobago – March 21st, 2025 – Today, the world commemorates World Down Syndrome Day, an annual observance on March 21st that specifically signifies the triplication of the 21st chromosome, the genetic origin of Down Syndrome. This year’s global theme, “End the Stereotypes,” champions a powerful message of inclusion and understanding.
In Tobago, Akeil Andrews, owner of the men’s accessory store Ties and Knotts, highlighted the local significance of this day. Andrews spoke about his annual “Rock Your Socks” campaign, explaining its purpose and connection to raising awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. The campaign encourages participants to wear colorful, mismatched socks to symbolize diversity and uniqueness, promoting acceptance for individuals with Down Syndrome.
