ST ANDREWS ANGLICAN SCHOOL CLOSED

Minority Leader Kelvon Morris mentioned that there was a substantial school repair program in both 2022 and 2023. However, St. Andrew’s Anglican Primary School had to remain closed for a significant portion of the new school term due to infrastructure issues. Morris expressed disappointment with ongoing problems like rat infestations and mould buildup.

Minority Leader Morris questioned the THA’s care and concern regarding the issues affecting the school population. These recurring disruptions have raised questions about the overall state of the school’s infrastructure and the effectiveness of previous repair efforts.

Morris accused the Secretary of Education, Research and Technology, Zorisha Hackett of not being accountable to the public.

TTUTA Tobago Officer Bradon Roberts commented on the situation, noting that it involves unresolved issues from the previous term spilling over into the current term, creating a two-fold challenge. Although the division is aware of the issues, and officials from OSHA and Health have visited the school, Roberts expressed disappointment that the term is starting with struggles to maintain educational continuity at the school.

Meanwhile, Morris pointed out that school repairs are not limited to one school; many others, including Scarborough Secondary and Light and Life, are also dealing with repair issues, despite a year-long effort to address lingering problems.

Tuesday’s shutdown should serve as a reminder of the persistent difficulties educational institutions face in ensuring a secure and suitable environment for students and staff.
