Reading Disabilities

Dr. Joan Bobb-Ward, an educator with 31 years of experience, highlighted the existence of learning disabilities within society. She also discussed methods to identify individuals with reading disabilities, including factors both directly connected to reading and those that are not.

Concerning the act of reading itself, she explained that a person would have problems sounding and pronouncing words.  One of the major disabilities that Dr. Bobb-Ward emphasized was Dyslexia. She explained that it affects the brain’s ability to recognize and comprehend language. While there is no cure for dyslexia, people can still lead successful lives with it. Dr. Bobb-Ward also provided signs to help detect and raise awareness of dyslexia.

Dr. Bobb-Ward wants more people to be educated about reading disabilities and the various methods to treat them.
