PM Dr. Keith Rowley commits government support to youth in agriculture at the launch of the tucker valley shade house project
August 16, 2024 – Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley pledged his government’s support for youth entrepreneurship in agriculture during Thursday’s (August 15, 2024) launch of the Tucker Valley Shade House Project in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. The program aims to provide 100 young people from across the nation, aged 16 to 35, with practical training in growing high-value, short-term crops tailored for the hospitality, healthcare, and fast-food sectors.
This model, inspired by a similar project in Guyana, is expected to help Trinidad and Tobago meet CARICOM’s goal of reducing its food import bill by 25% by 2025. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to boosting local food production and fostering a new generation of agro-entrepreneurs.
