In the aftermath of the oil spill disaster, now in its sixth day, significant progress has been observed along the coastlines from Scarborough to Cove. Cleanup crews have achieved notable success at Rockley Bay, where substantial removal of heavy oil deposits has revealed previously obscured sand, particularly around the iconic “I Love Tobago” sign. However, challenges remain as oil residue persists on nearby rocks.
The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) has proactively responded by delivering CANSORB, a biodegradable substance known for its oil-absorbing properties, to the Magdalena Grand Hotel. This promising solution will greatly facilitate the cleanup process.
High-level officials, including Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young, representatives from Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL), and TEMA’s Director, have visited the primary operational zones to enhance coordination and ensure efficient resource deployment.
