Scarborough, Tobago – The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) has provided an update on its Marine Resilience Initiative (MARIN), confirming that its team has been actively collecting seagrass or turtle grass fruits in Tobago. This effort is a crucial part of an ongoing seagrass rehabilitation project on the island.
From July to September, the team has been gathering thousands of fruits and seeds with the goal of restoring these threatened ecosystems. The IMA is leading the MARIN project, which aims to assess the feasibility of coral and seagrass restoration in light of current ecological conditions, disturbances, and management practices. This effort is critical for preserving Tobago’s marine biodiversity, as healthy seagrass beds are vital for the sustainability of turtles and other marine creatures.
