Scarborough, Tobago – August 1, 2024 – Agriculture currently contributes only 2% to Tobago’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, at Tuesday’s IDA Press Conference, Stacy Herbert, Secretary of the Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA), pointed out that this figure is a “far cry from what the island used to produce in the past.”
Herbert’s comments highlight a significant concern regarding the state of agriculture in Tobago and its diminished contribution to the island’s overall economy. Her call for increased focus and investment in the sector underscores the IDA’s push for agricultural revitalization to restore its historical prominence in Tobago’s economic landscape.
