Scarborough, Tobago – February 26, 2024 – It had been two weeks since the Gulfstream Oil Spill significantly impacted Tobago’s coastline, prompting various concerted efforts to restore the island’s natural beauty. While Trinidad had provided substantial aid, the scale of the disaster called for more action.
To effectively address the ongoing environmental challenge, the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were coordinating a crucial oil spill clean-up initiative. They were actively seeking 40 dedicated volunteers to join the restoration efforts.
Participants in this vital cleanup would receive essential personal protective equipment (PPE), a weekly stipend, and specialized training to safely carry out their tasks. Ideal candidates were those in good health, specifically without respiratory issues. The cleanup operations were scheduled to run daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM for a period of two weeks.
