Farewell to Denyse Plummer

Scores of people came out in their numbers not to just mourn but also to celebrate our nation’s calypso hero. In attendance were special dignitaries such as government and religious ministers. The Eulogy was done by both her sons Jesse and Robert Boocock who referred to their mother as “remarkable, and one of a kind.”

According to her family, although she had a busy career there was never a time she was not present when needed. Her inspiration came from unforgettable heroes such as Martin Luther King and Princess Diana who just like her left behind a legacy behind. There was a great amount of tributes from people whom she impacted throughout Trinidad and Tobago. This included the Holy Name Convent Choir; a choir Denyse herself with fifty-four years ago gaining her very first recognition while still in high school. After she went on to conquer the world stages. Wendy Sheppard and pianist “D’Piano Girl” Johanna were among those paying their respects.

She was awarded the Citadel Lifetime Achievement Award and the Holy Name Convent Past Pupil’s Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Culture in 2010 as well as the Hummingbird Medal Gold for Culture in 2012. Her music inspired and encouraged many and she leaves an immaculate legacy.
