The Tobago FA Cup kicked on Sunday with a doubleheader at the Dwight Yorke Stadium and another match at the Shaw Park Recreation Ground. In the opening match at the Stadium, Georgia defeated 2017 champions Black Rock United 5-3 in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Dominic Alfred’s 70th-minute strike cancelled out Jamal Small’s first-half goal.
In the later game, Plymouth-based Stokely Vale FC secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Calder Hall FC. Stefano Wright opened the scoring for the men in green in the 36th minute, timing his run perfectly to tap in from close range. Three minutes later, Vale had their second goal of the night. Initially denied by the onrushing goalkeeper Kwame McDougall, they got a lucky bounce and made good on their fortune with a well-placed shot. Keston Agard put the icing on the cake in the 65th minute with another simple tap-in from close range off a corner kick.
At Shaw Park, Leeds United came from two goals down to defeat Signal Hill United 5-4 in a penalty shootout. Leeds, in yellow, scored first against the run of play in the 14th minute, with Keon Boucher as the scorer. However, Signal Hill responded with three goals to go into halftime as the happier team. The equaliser came through Anson Campbell with a free kick that somehow found its way past the Leeds goalkeeper in the 28th minute. Campbell added a second goal in the 37th minute with a header. On the stroke of halftime, Mark Chin had the simple task of tapping into an open net following a counterattack. In the second half, Leeds pulled within one goal in the 53rd minute with some excellent play on the by-line.
The equaliser came in the 75th minute with a powerful right-footer from Boucher. In the penalty shootout that followed, a wild shot in sudden death brought an end to proceedings with Leeds emerging as the victor. FA Cup action continues Tuesday with a doubleheader at the Cyd Gray Sporting Complex and a match at the Shaw Park Recreation Ground.
