Scarborough, Tobago – Minority Leader Kelvon Morris has strongly condemned what he describes as the Chief Secretary’s divisive tactics, accusing them of deliberately sowing discord between the residents of Tobago and Trinidad. Morris labeled such actions as “appalling,” particularly given their timing, coinciding with the nation’s 61st Independence Anniversary.
Morris urged “rational Tobagonians” to reject the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) and its perceived “separation agenda.” While acknowledging the legitimate need to enhance the Tobago House of Assembly (THA)‘s autonomy, Morris firmly asserted that Trinidad and Tobago are “better off united than divided,” emphasizing the crucial importance of collaboration and shared nationhood for collective progress.
In a similar vein, the Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) also condemned the “declaration of war” rhetoric emanating from the Executive Council.Political Leader Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus stated unequivocally that such a stance “is not helping Tobago.” Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus urged the current THA administration to review their approach and immediately “discontinue the stance of a declaration of war.”
As the IDA extended Independence Day wishes to all citizens, Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus encouraged all Tobagonians to work together to contribute positively to the overall development of Trinidad and Tobago.
