Delays experienced in moving Gulfstream vessel to Trinidad.
Scarborough, Tobago – August 16, 2024 – Delays are being experienced by T&T Salvage in moving the Gulfstream vessel. According to Allan Stewart, Director of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), the vessel should have been moved already, but the team responsible encountered challenges with sea conditions.
T&T Salvage, the international company hired by the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries to decant the oil and remove the vessel, plans to transport it to Trinidad when conditions are favorable. Stewart noted that the vessel has shifted slightly from its original position. The Gulfstream was shipwrecked upside down on a reef near Cove on February 7th, leaking bunker fuel that affected 15 km of coastline between Scarborough and Canoe Bay, causing millions of dollars in damage. The vessel was being towed by the Solo Creed tug from Panama to Guyana when it encountered problems and drifted to Tobago. Investigations into the ownership of the vessels are still ongoing.
