Chief Secretary Art Competition Prize Ceremony

Melissa Duncan of Signal Hill Secondary School has emerged victorious in the prestigious Chief Secretary Tobago Secondary School’s Art Competition. Her winning piece, titled ‘The Island of Hidden Riches’, captivated judges and earned her not only accolades but also a cash prize and an internship at E-Pixel Studio.

The Pigeon Point Heritage Park Pavilion served as the grand venue for the 10th anniversary of this esteemed competition’s prize-giving ceremony. Avian Parks, Communications Director at THA, shared that while themes are typically not imposed, this year’s submissions were particularly diverse and impressive, showcasing the burgeoning talent of Tobago’s youth.

Chief Administrator Denese Toby-Quashie underscored the competition’s role in empowering young artists, noting its sustained impact over a decade in nurturing emerging talent. She expressed gratitude to the teachers and friends who provide crucial support to the participants.

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine emphasized the significance of youth creativity in shaping Tobago’s future greatness. He highlighted the importance of young people envisioning Tobago as the greatest island globally, irrespective of its size. Augustine encouraged the next generation to start contemplating what it means to achieve greatness and to take charge of the island’s future.

The ceremony celebrated a total of 12 winners, whose artworks will grace the Chief Secretary’s 2024 Calendar, showcasing Tobago’s artistic prowess throughout the year.
