Independent Senator Dr. Anthony Vieira questions whether larger brand hotels are fit for Tobago with rising concerns of climate change.
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Independent Senator Dr. Anthony Vieira raised a critical question regarding the suitability of large brand hotels for Tobago, just before the Upper House was dismissed for its annual recess on Friday.
Dr. Vieira cited concerns faced globally by large brand resorts, which have led to closures, as well as the escalating problems posed by rising sea levels and other climate change-related factors on coastal infrastructure. He expressed apprehension that the environmental laws of Trinidad and Tobago are not adequately aligning with the urgent need for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to mitigate the impacts of climate change. His query prompts further discussion on sustainable tourism development for Tobago.
