Aero Credit Union Relocation

Aero Services Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited’s president, Brian Matthew, claimed that the credit union has faced many difficulties. Given that the Credit Union was started in 1950 with just $145, Matthew commented on how the organization overcame obstacles as it developed over the years. “And one of the things that is remarkable about that is from that hundred and forty-five dollars in 1950 by 1990 that hundred and forty five dollars had grown to 18 million dollars with just under a hundred members in 1950 the membership was just 1520 in 1990.”

Being a Trinidadian Co-operative, Aero Credit Union made its initial investment in Tobago in 2005 with the acquisition of the 8-bedroom guest house, Coral Ridge. They considered this an excellent approach to investing in Tobago. “Until it became apparent that we needed to do some significant work with one of the preferred house of assembly accommodations but to stay on that you need to keep pace with the requisites  that you are required to engage in.”

Cindy Stewart Lewis, an employee of Aero Services Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited, stated that the relocation was undertaken to better serve the Credit Union’s members due to the inconveniences posed by the previous location.

According to Technical Advisor at the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, Korice Nancis, credit unions empower the ‘smaller man’ more than banks, as banks are subject to numerous regulations that might hinder their operations.
