Finance Minister denounces Tobago airport misinformation
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Ministry of Finance has condemned what it calls media misinformation about the Tobago Airport Project, specifically addressing claims made by the Daily Express.
The Ministry criticized the newspaper for overstating the project cost by $100 million and for allegedly ignoring provided evidence that refuted these claims. Finance Minister Colm Imbert highlighted that structural integrity and cost details, verified by experts, were shared but were reportedly omitted by the media. He accused the Express of spreading “yellow journalism” and misleading the public, despite a Cabinet Note containing detailed justifications for the project’s timeline, cost, and challenges. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a modern airport terminal in Tobago and dismissed the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the project.
