Chairwoman of the T&T Cancer Society, Dr. Asante le Blanc, has raised the issue of inadequate cancer treatments
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – March 2024 – During a recent Joint Select Committee (JSC) meeting, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Non-communicable Diseases Alliance (T&T NCD Alliance) were questioned on critical healthcare issues. Dr. Asante Le Blanc, Chairwoman of the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society, specifically raised significant concerns regarding dysfunctional equipment at various Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) across the nation.
Dr. Le Blanc emphasized that these equipment failures are causing substantial delays in services for cancer patients. Compounding this challenge, she also highlighted persistent problems with the availability of essential drugs for cancer treatment. Her testimony underscored the urgent need for improvements in the public healthcare system to ensure timely and effective care for cancer patients.
The issues raised by the T&T Cancer Society bring to light critical gaps in the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and resource management for managing non-communicable diseases.
