TTUTA TOBAGO HIGHLIGHTS THAT STEELPAN INITIATIVE IN SCHOOLS IS NOT A NOVEL CONCEPT
In response to recent calls for steelpan to be included in school curricula, TTUTA Tobago has clarified that a steelpan program has been in place for over a decade but is currently suspended. This clarification follows veteran composer Len “Boogsie” Sharpe’s advocacy for making steelpan education mandatory, which he believes could reduce crime and boost national pride. Sharpe, who spoke at the President’s Pan Camp hosted by President Christine Kangaloo, highlighted the potential benefits of steelpan education, including its ability to steer young people away from crime and foster national pride. Janae Campbell has the details.
