September 18, 2025- Minority Leader Kelvon Morris has criticised Tashia Burris, calling her “a run-away train with no accountability,” and noting that even the Leader of Assembly Business is unaware of the reason behind her prolonged absence.
Morris highlighted that while the law permits temporary assignments under Section 34(1) of Act 40 of 1996, there is no set timeframe for how long a Secretary may serve in an acting capacity once the Presiding Officer has been informed.
Zorisha Hackett’s new assignment comes at a pivotal moment—just weeks before the Tobago October Carnival celebrations and as the island prepares for the 2025–2026 tourism season. Officials are aiming to boost cruise arrivals and expand cultural programming to support Tobago’s economy.
The media release from the Office of the Chief Secretary did not specify the duration of Hackett’s assignment, noting only that it is “temporary.”
