Kingston, Jamaica – Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 storm, approached Jamaica with the threat of devastating winds and heavy rainfall after causing significant damage in the southeast Caribbean. The storm, which was previously a Category 5, had already led to fatalities and widespread destruction in Grenada and northern Venezuela.
In response to the approaching threat, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a major disaster area, closed airports, and enforced a curfew for public safety. His actions underscored the seriousness of the storm and the need for Jamaicans to take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their property from the powerful hurricane.
