The DXL Charity Olympics 2023, a vibrant event dedicated to community welfare, successfully brought together entertainers and the public in Tobago. According to Quincy Trim, President of DXL Promotions, the Charity Olympics originated four years prior, born from a collective decision by the organization’s members to empower entertainers in collaborating on charitable endeavors. Since its inception, the event has seen notable growth in attendance.
Trim elaborated on DXL’s commitment, stating, “So even before DXL, we had something called Comcare, which meant community care. With the same members, we started it in 2013 when most of us graduated college, and now that we have a larger vehicle, we wanted to do something to give back to the community. Fun fact: DXL is actually an NGO, so all our profit goes back into the community and Tobago. So this is just one of many activities, more public activities that we do to give back.”
Trim noted a significant increase in participants for the 2023 event, with everyone uniting for a common charitable goal. He expressed satisfaction with the organization’s development and extended an open invitation to other Tobagonians involved in similar initiatives to participate or even initiate their own. DXL aims to continue organizing such impactful events beyond 2023, emphasizing their aspiration for sustained community engagement.
“I feel like activities like this really brings together the community but is really also a networking opportunity for the businessmen as well. We have service providers and entertainment men, and outside of that, we can really hang our hat on all our participating members because all our business owners are young, it shows that we can come together for something in the community, and these events are needed,” Trim stated.
The DXL Charity Olympics 2023 took place at the Buccoo Integrated Facility. While admission was free, attendees were encouraged to contribute canned goods, further supporting the charitable aspect of the event. DXL’s president also outlined innovative projects planned for the upcoming year, stressing that giving back should not be confined to the holiday season.
