Women Between 21-65 Urged to Get Screened for Cervical Cancer

January 10, 2025 – January marks Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the risks of cervical cancer, which sexually active women can be susceptible to through the transmission of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Women between the ages of 21 and 65 are at risk of developing the disease.

According to gynaecologists and obstetricians Dr. Shauntelle Winchester and Dr. Victor Wheeler, who appeared on the Tobago Updates Morning Show, one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer is through regular Pap smears. The doctors’ message was part of a larger public health campaign for Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, emphasizing that regular screening is a critical tool for early detection and prevention.
