Political Scientist Dr. Ragoonath highlighted that the country is gripped by fear and experiencing panic due to the high crime rate. Concerning Tobago, gun-related crimes are on the rise and have become a significant issue, particularly with the occurrence of nine murders. He emphasized the necessity for legislative support, but there is apprehension regarding whether such support will be provided due to the adversarial nature of the political parties.
He pointed out that the public is aware of the solutions to their problems, but they lack the means to put them into action. He also mentioned that their suggestions are not being taken into consideration.
Dr Ragoonath gave a resolution as to how the government can go about dealing with the crime rate. This entails the government and the opposition collaborating just as President Christine Kangaloo had hoped for in her speech in Parliament. As Dr. Ragoonath mentioned, the nation is gripped by fear and experiencing a state of panic due to the high level of crime. He also emphasized the importance of concerted efforts from both sides to combat crime.
