Scarborough, Tobago – Some environmentalists and reef stakeholders are expressing little hope for the recovery of Tobago’s coral reefs following a devastating Level 5 coral bleaching event.
The Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) has reported widespread bleaching across all reefs, including the iconic Speyside brain coral. With Tobago’s reefs now on the verge of collapse, there is an urgent call for action. Experts suggest that a complete overhaul of how reef tours are conducted, along with other measures, may be necessary to protect the remaining reefs and give them a chance to recover.
