Marine resilience initiative collects turtle grass seeds in Tobago for seagrass rehabilitation.
Seagrass is bearing fruit! In an update from the Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA), The Marine Resilience Initiative (MARIN) has been collecting seagrass or turtle grass fruits in Tobago as part of its seagrass rehabilitation project. From July to September, the team gathered thousands of fruits and seeds to restore these threatened ecosystems. The IMA is leading the MARIN project, which aims to assess feasibility of coral and seagrass restoration in light of current ecological conditions, disturbances, and management practices. This effort is critical for preserving Tobago’s marine biodiversity as seagrass is important for the sustainability of turtles and other marine creatures.
