TTUTA concerned about the closure of schools before the SEA examination
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – March 20th, 2024 – All primary schools and private examination centres across Trinidad and Tobago were closed today to conduct safety and quality checks, a measure taken ahead of the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) exam. The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) voiced its thoughts on this unexpected development.
TTUTA President Martin Lum Kin stated he found it “irregular” that schools would be closed the day before such a pivotal exam. While the official reason behind the widespread school closure was not publicly disclosed, the decision sparked questions among educators and parents.
Tobago TTUTA Officer Bradon Roberts also weighed in on the matter, noting that while TTUTA had not been given formal information about the reason for the closure, based on the circumstances, it was “not something he is ready to question.” This suggests an underlying understanding of potential security or operational concerns, even without official confirmation.
The pre-SEA closure highlights the measures taken to ensure the integrity and safety of the examination process, even if they sometimes deviate from typical protocols.
