Top COP Meets with Tobago Chamber of Commerce

Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher assures burgesses in Tobago that the Trinidad and Tobago police service has implemented measures to reduce the upsurge of violent crimes within their communities

Scarborough, Tobago – [Late 2024/Early 2025, prior to Jan 30, 2025]Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher assured burgesses in Tobago that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has implemented measures to reduce the upsurge of certain violent crimes within their communities.

This disclosure followed a significant stakeholder meeting held on Wednesday at the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Milford Road, Scarborough. The meeting, which was requested last year by the business community, saw attendance from various key interest groups on the island.

In addition to the Commissioner of Police, the high-level police delegation included Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Junior Benjamin; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Eastern and Tobago, Collis Hazel; and Criminal Division, Vena Butler; along with Senior Superintendent, Tobago Division, Michael Jackman. They listened to community concerns and shared the strategies being used to bring about a reduction of violent and gun crimes on the island.

Among the critical topics discussed were the curtailing of illicit drugs and firearm trade and trafficking, addressing school violence and juvenile delinquency, and managing the migration of offenders. This collaborative effort highlighted the TTPS’s commitment to enhancing safety and security for Tobago’s residents and businesses.
