Lesley Ann Ellis, a Calypsonian of 27 years, alleged that the election registration process in Tobago has left other TUCO branches in the dark. She highlighted the allowance of unqualified voters, impacting results, and criticised the lack of transparency in Tobago’s elections.
Former Vice Chairman Ingrid Brathwaite Matthew highlighted that TUCO has not convened a general membership meeting in the past 9 to 12 years. She also pointed out that Vice Chairman Roberts’ elections list excluded past calypsonian members, consisting of 36 new members instead.
Roberts voiced discontent with Tobago’s calypso scene, highlighting that only one tent, the Globe tent, receives subventions from the THA. The calypsonians said they would continue to advocate until their concerns are addressed.
