Duke is a Political Lazarus

After failing to garner enough votes in the recently concluded Local Government Elections, the political leader of the PDP, Watson Duke, is concentrating his efforts in Tobago. He has expressed a desire to repair the damage done over the past year between himself and Chief Secretary Farley Augustine by requesting a reconciliation meeting. This desire was met with amusement from the political scientist Dr. Shane Mohammed.

Dr. Mohammed does not believe Duke’s intentions are genuine. His sentiments are similar to that of former Assemblyman and political commentator, Max James. Both men are adamant that the Chief Secretary should not respond to the request for a reconciliation meeting. According to Dr. Mohammed, Duke’s failure as a politician is evident in the complaints about the state of his electoral district office in Roxborough.

The PDP political leader considers the disagreements with Augustine a betrayal, along with the formation of the Tobago People’s Party. James believes the real betrayal is Duke’s failed attempt to become the mayor of Port-of-Spain, while he is already an elected Assemblyman. Neither Dr. Mohammed nor James sees any hope for a political comeback from Duke.
