Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Ministry of Health has reported 20 new laboratory-confirmed dengue cases, bringing the total across Trinidad and Tobago to 1,407. Sixteen deaths remain confirmed.

In its September 17th update, the ministry noted that 1,142 yellow fever notices were issued to property owners, and 53 face potential legal action for non-compliance. Meanwhile, the last count on September 13th indicated that Tobago had 132 cases.

Dengue fever, spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, can cause fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, rash, nausea, and diarrhea. The ministry urges those with symptoms to seek immediate medical attention. The public should actively eliminate mosquito breeding sites, cover water containers, clear undergrowth, clean drains, and use mosquito nets and repellent to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
