Visually Impaired Residents and THA Staff Trained in CPR and First Aid

August 27, 2025 – In a major step toward building a more resilient Tobago, visually impaired participants and Tobago House of Assembly (THA) workers have been trained in CPR and first aid through a collaborative initiative between the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA).

TEMA’s session focused on empowering members of the visually impaired community with essential life-saving skills, helping them gain the confidence to act effectively in emergency situations. At the same time, OSHA conducted targeted training for THA employees, with an emphasis on workplace safety and emergency preparedness.

Participants received hands-on instruction in CPR, how to manage medical emergencies, and practical response techniques. Instructors stressed the importance of early intervention and proper technique — both of which can mean the difference between life and death.

OSHA officials praised THA staff for their high level of engagement, while TEMA underscored the significance of inclusion and accessibility in safety training.

All participants received certificates of completion, reinforcing both agencies’ commitment to equipping Tobagonians with the skills needed to respond confidently in times of crisis.
