March 20, 2025 – The family of injured Christon Battersby was overcome with emotion as they met the women who were instrumental in saving his life. The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation hosted a simple ceremony today to honour the visitors and lifeguards who ensured that Battersby had a second chance at life.
Tokens were distributed by Secretary of the Division, Councillor Tashia Burris, Assistant Secretary, Assemblyman Niall George and Administrator, Ms. Shelly Trim to Mr. Ainswell Mapp, Lifeguard II; Mr. Kern Jackson, Lifeguard II; Fred London, Lifeguard Patrol Captain; Mrs. Sarah Persson of Sweden; and Mrs. Anna Hospedales of Canada.
The family of Mr. Battersby were also on hand and expressed their heartfelt thanks to all who were involved in the life-saving effort of their loved one last Saturday.
