T&T Launches ‘Payment Revolution’ as NLCB Terminals Set to Handle Taxes, Licenses

Trinidad and Tobago is taking a bold step toward modernizing its payment landscape with the launch of the National Payment and Innovation Company (NPIC)—a new state-owned enterprise aimed at transforming how citizens complete government transactions.

Formerly known as the Trinidad and Tobago International Financial Centre, NPIC was relaunched in February 2020 and is now partnering with the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB). In the first phase of the initiative, over 900 NLCB terminals nationwide will be upgraded to accept payments for taxes, licenses, social grants, and more.

This move is part of a wider push toward financial inclusion, especially as recent data shows that 25% of adults in Trinidad and Tobago remain unbanked. By introducing accessible options such as digital wallets and cash vouchers, the government hopes to ease everyday transactions and accelerate the shift toward a cash-lite economy.

Officials describe the plan as a “payment revolution” that promises secure, convenient, and inclusive financial services for all citizens.
